We went out to San Diego for a trade show. It was during those awful wildfires where they had to evacuate half a million people or whatever it was - pretty terrible stuff. We flew right over and through the fire zones.


This turned out to be just some little fire burning inland a ways.


You can see a little fire burning there now. Keep in mind we're 15,000 feet in the air at this point, so that little fire is actually huge flames leaping up and consuming trees. And those aren't clouds, that's all smoke. You could smell it inside the plane.


The smoke was so thick that it made the sun red while it was still very high in the sky. It was redder than this photo shows, too. (I should adjust the colors, but I'm not willing to take the time.)
